So I am feeling pretty devestated that had my GP refered me to my GIC when I had asked I would be being seen around this time but instead I will have to wait an additional 12-18 months.
I have decided to go back and see my therapist who specialises in trans people, the cost is £55 per 1 hour session.
I feel like I wouldnt be in this situation if it wasnt for my GPs fuck up and that I should be compensated for the costs of my therapy.
Do you think its fair to try and take out such a claim against your GP?

Ive also decided to go for a hysterectamy, which I intended to have done with my phallo surgery, but since its been put off by atleast 18 months I reckon its the most responsible decision as I am already due and starting to get serious anxiety about the possibility of developing ovarian cancer.

I'm not a lawyer but I don't see how you could do that without claiming medical negligence against your gp.
You may be able to put a case to the practice manager and see if they will agree to meet the costs? Or even if they have a therapist you could see?

I want to see my therapist, even if they offered me one, I would turn it down and pay for my own as I'm comfortable with the one I have, So I will see what they have to say about funding it, but something tells me they wont.
I do have a call with my GP tomorrow, I'm going to ask him to put in writing exactly why it took a year for him to refer me and to send that to my GIC and see if that helps them move me up the list.

Did you ever find out from the GP or the GIC what/who was the cause of the delay?
I think it would be better to find out why the GP took so long to refer you as there might be a reason before going in guns blazing inferring negligence and demanding/asking for them to pay your therapy bills - which I don't think they would be under any obligation to do. You also may need the GP's help or further letters written in the future and pissing them off will not help your cause so choose your battles wisely. But it can't hurt to explain how upset you are and how distressing this is for you and how long the waits are at the GIC and is there anything they can do to speed the process up since this is not your fault? Do you have any documentation you can take to show that you asked for a referral all those months ago?

I was pretty pissed when I wrote this and have cooled down now, but it appears that it was my GP who mucked up my referal, the helpful lady who works there told me he went through the wrong procedure to refer me, but in a letter I have asked him to write explaining the issue he blames some admin who is new to the practice and not farmiliar with the procedures, which is curious because this is what the lady had essentially said about my new GP.
I am back at therapy, and my therapist is also going to write a letter for me.
I have expressed also to my GP that I might now have to consider a hysterectamy because I was intending to get it with my surgery, but since I have been set back another year or two, I would now have to consider my health. He was quite adamant that I didnt get a hysterectamy and wait to see my GIC... I'm in a weird limbo where I dont know when I will be seen and if I should go ahead and get a hysterectamy or wait and hope I am seen sooner.
